eReader or paper? Which do you prefer?

I’ve read more books in the last three months than I have in the last three years. I owe it all to my family for gifting me with a Kindle Keyboard for Christmas.

I’ve swapped the feel of hardback and paperback for the feel of plastic. And I don’t miss it.

I love all the free or nearly free books Kindle offers. I never have to leave my home to get a book, nor do I have to wait for one to come in the mail. Even my local library system has books I can download onto my Kindle via the Tennessee R.E.A.D.S. website. All free, although I do have to wait for most of the books I have requested. They are “on hold”, just like the popular books I might get from Linebaugh Library.

How about y’all?

Do you own a Kindle, Nook, or some other eReader? How do you like it?

Do you miss the feel of paper in your hands?

Does your eReader help you read more than you ever have before?

Regardless of how you read, share what you’ve been reading that is excellent… title, author, and genre, too

Looking forward to your opinions.

I would have to say, that I enjoy my kindle..but …not the prices of the books! I can get a real physical book for the price of a digital one! We may not have electricity for forever, and in the event of an apocalypse my books won’t need recharging! so if I had to choose I would still go with a hardback book. I do get a lot of my books on my kindle free from the library, and amazon, but if I love a book then I want to own it! You just can’t beat the smell of a book having its pages flipped through. Although I do think I may have a slight obsession with books at this point so my opinion is a little biased!

You have a point about the end of the world… or even something like a tornado, flood, or hurricane. But, in those cases, our books would be ruined, too, huh? Just thinking as I type. I hear what you’re saying about the costs. If one likes to buy new releases books can be pricey either way. And loving a book does necessitate owning it, doesn’t it?

I spent some time at McKay Used Bookstore yesterday… no matter how much I love my Kindle, I just can’t stay away from that store. Traded a bunch of books, then “bought” a bunch of new ones — mostly for homeschool next year — although I will admit to buying some books about novel writing and one Inspirational Fiction novel set in Nashville. It’s called NashVegas by Rachel Hauck… not your genre, I know. :)

Thanks for your comments. Any book is a good book, no matter how you read it! Glad you stopped by for a chat.

At first, when the Kindle came out, I was sure I would never want one because I like the feel of books and going to the library. But, now that I have one, I love it! Like Erica said, you don’t have to go to the library to get books, there are tons of freebies to “buy” and it is easy to use the Kindle. I like the fact that, if needed, the font can be enlarged and if I want, I can use the audio and listen to the books. I still like the feel of books in my hands and still go to the library because some books I cannot get for my Kindle (mainly because I don’t like to pay for books). Before I got a Kindle Keyboard, I used the Kindle app on my phone. Now I can sync them and if I don’t have my Kindle with me, I can still read the book I’m currently reading. That’s my opinion of the Ereader vs Paperback!

Great insights, Linda. I forgot to mention many of those details. They are bonuses for me, too. Love my Kindle, but will admit to needing a paperback (or hardcover) in my hands once in a while, especially if it’s cheaper than a Kindle book. Gotta love deals!
